Why you should use chipboard flooring

Friday, June 29, 2018

In the building trade it’s essential to keep costs as low as possible, for both labour and materials. Finding quality products that help reduce labour time and therefore costs is key to achieving this. The chipboard flooring that we supply here at Beaumont Forest does a great job at this.

chipboard flooring

Norbord’s chipboard flooring has been specifically designed for use as a subfloor in domestic applications. Using the P5 tongue and grooved flooring can keep costs low by making fitting as quick and easy as possible.

We supply the UK manufactured chipboard in 18mm and 22mm thicknesses. The tongue and groove profile on each side makes it so much more simple to lay a subfloor in a precise manner.

The chipboard flooring that we supply is strong versatile and offers high levels of stability. It’s also treated with a water resistant resin that makes it suitable for use in humid and damp conditions like bathrooms and kitchens. The coating on the P5 graded chipboard means it is resistant to water for up to 42 days but any longer than this it needs to be protected from the elements.

How do Norbord manufacture their chipboard?

Norbord, like ourselves, are committed to sourcing all of their timber from responsibly managed forests. All of their manufacturing facilities have the ability to produce FCS certified products.

Chipboard flooring75% of the raw materials used in manufacturing Caberboard are sourced from recycled materials. The recycled components are sorted and broken down into fine strands which have to continuously pass rigorous quality examinations.

The mixture of fresh softwood chips and recycled chips are bonded together with a resin under heat and pressure to form a rigid board with a smooth surface.

No more squeaky floors

If you’re using a quality adhesive on all your joists when fitting chipboard flooring, you won’t have the issue of squeaky floors. Good quality adhesives can create a flexible bond between the subfloor and joists and eradicate any problems that used to occur with chipboard.

If you’re on the lookout for a subfloor material that is guaranteed to last and will save you time and money, choose chipboard flooring for your projects.
