Why we do it best: Timber Mouldings & Flooring

Tuesday, January 26, 2016

Timber has been used in the construction industry for thousands of years and is one of the most popular building materials around. In terms of the environmental impact logging can have there are many concerns, which is why there are now established laws in place to ensure that our forests are sustainable.

timber flooring and mouldings

At Beaumont Forest, the replenishment of forests is at the forefront of our minds. It’s important for us to utilise fast growing, young trees that are continually being replaced, rather than using larger, more mature trees. Using SFI certified forest management guarantees that the timber comes from well-managed forests, certifying that the timber is not illegally imported. We’re proud to say that all of our products are manufactured using timber from sustainable forests and we meet all the correct requirements in terms of responsible management.

We stock a wide range of timber mouldings and flooring at Beaumont Forest. We also provide all the required accessories for your new flooring helping to ensure that you get the most professional looking result.

Here’s a quick look at what we offer:

Soft wood mouldings

Cheshire Mouldings are crafted from high quality timber and are a great way to transform any room. These timber mouldings can be used around doors, skirtings or even used on walls to create unique feature elements to your home.

Redwood skirting + architrave

Redwood skirtings and architraves are also part of our extensive timber mouldings range and come with a variety of profiles and bevelling. When placed with our stunning Redwood timber flooring they look fantastic.

MDF mouldings

We not only deal with timber mouldings and flooring but also produce high-quality engineered wood, in our primed MDF range we provide window boards and primed skirting and architrave.

ELKA engineered timber floorings and solid oak premium flooring

ELKA share our high environmental values and ensure that their timber also comes from well-managed and sustained forests; making as little damage to the natural environment as possible.

As well as being strong and durable, ELKA’s solid oak floors are particle and stylish and can add a distinctive character to your home.

ELKA’s engineered wood flooring is a fantastic alternative to real timber flooring; with all great aesthetics but without the impracticalities. The engineered timber can be fixed straight to joists and will happily be sanded and refinished.

At Beaumont Forest we stock all the necessary accessories to accompany your timber flooring, including underlay, cleaner and adhesive, all of which will add an expert finish to your new flooring.

All of our timber mouldings and flooring products are designed to stand the test of time and will add great value to your home.

Top tips for laying your timber flooring

Getting started

In order to determine how much of timber flooring to purchase we suggest adding 5% onto the area of your room. This is a good way to make sure you’re not caught short after cutting and fittings.

Not only is standing on a cold floor horrible, 10% of possible heat lost in your home can escape through the floors. Selecting the right underlay can therefore be instrumental in helping you reduce your bills as well as adding comfort to your home and protecting your floors.

Our range of responsibly sourced P5 tongue and grooved chipboard flooring is a great base for most of our timber flooring. Our chipboard comes in 18mm and 22mm depths and is available with a protective film.

We also supply ELKA’s own lightweight but durable underlay that includes a damp proof membrane making it ideal for use on concrete ground floors which can sometimes be prone to damp.

Leave room for growth

Whether you are using engineered or real timber flooring we always advise that you leave room for expansion. All wood can be prone to growth, leaving a 12mm gap between your walls and flooring helps to allow for this. These gaps can be easily covered with our wide range of MDF and timber mouldings.

Laying your timber flooring

When deciding which direction to lay your timber flooring it depends on the size and shape of the room. We advise laying the timber in the direction of the longest wall in the room, alternatively, if you have a square room we suggest laying it in the direction of oncoming light. Laying your flooring in this way is great way to create the illusion of a larger room.

Helpful hint: Starting your flooring from the furthest corner can help you to stay organised during your flooring project.

Working around pre-existing objects

In order to get the most professional finish with your flooring it’s important to mindful of pre-existing mouldings. Radiator pipes and architraves are both common difficulties when laying timber flooring, here’s our advice to work around them. Architraves: Carefully sawing into the base of architraves in order to make a small gap for your wood flooring is the easiest option to fit the floor.

Radiator pipes: By drilling a hole larger in diameter to the pipe and making two angled cuts, to the edge of the board, you can neatly glue the small off-cut behind the pipe. This will hopefully create a professional looking finish to your wood floor.
