How composite decking can save you money

Thursday, June 01, 2017

Composite decking is doing an amazing job at rivalling traditional real wood decking. It’s made up of a mix of recycled wood particles and recycled plastic components, making it an eco-friendly addition to any garden. In most cases, it does require a higher start-up cost but there are so many reasons why it works out far more cost-effective in the long run.

The consistency of composite decking reduces waste

The luxury of having a man-made material means that there are no knots or inconsistencies to worry about. What would usually result in materials being unusable and thrown out, is now not a problem. Some of the composite decks even allow for longer spans ; reducing the number of joists need, and lowering the costs.

It can cut down on labour costs

Most composite decks come with simple clip fixings and effective mounting systems, making it very quick and easy to fit. Hidden fixings also mean that time doesn’t need to be spent perfectly aligning screws to achieve a neat finish.

Composite decking requires virtually no ongoing maintenance

This is where the cost effectiveness comes into play. The plastic composition has got rid of the problems often associated with real wood decking; rot, warping and fading. In order to prevent these issues with timber decking you would need to clean the decking frequently and treat/stain it annually. All that the composite alternative really needs is a quick clean each year, in preparation for the days spent in the garden.

It’s much longer lasting

If you’re lucky, a real wood deck can last up to 20 years but will have certainly needed a lot of maintenance to get to that age and it will probably look pretty worn. Our range of composite decking comes with a service life of at least 25 years but can be easily extended far beyond that.

Traditional timber decking does look beautiful, but manufacturers of composite decking have been able to achieve really authentic looking composite decks. Luckily for you, you can now get the best of both worlds; a decking that looks the part and will last a lifetime with very little upkeep.
